Protection of wildlife habitat is one of the most crucial factors in biodiversity conservation. To strengthen protection in tiger ranges, GTF is organizing capacity building workshops on protection across the TRCs.
Protection oriented programme/projects conducted/facilitated by GTF:
Frontline Appraisal: Also known as Ranger perception survey is a survey to find out the professional and personal issues/problems of frontline staff in different types of forests in India. It helps in finding gaps and recommends changes/improvements so as to bring any policy changes that could provide equal opportunity, training facilities, equipment, etc. to the frontline officers and bring them at par with other enforcement agencies in the country.
Security Audit: This exercise has been developed to help Tiger Reserve (TR) managers in regularly tracking the progress of their enforcement efforts to tackle poaching in their sites. It also assesses the immediate, near future, and future threats along with prioritization of species in their park.
The security audit was initiated as a pilot in Kanha and Satkosia Tiger Reserves to develop a protocol – “Protocol for security audit of Tiger Reserves”.
The Global Tiger Forum in association with WWF-India and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) has conducted the Security Audit of 25 Tiger Reserves for the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Government of India.
