Regional Capacity Building

Strengthen tiger conservation across Tiger Range Countries

The Global Tiger Forum (GTF) has been actively advancing regional capacity-building efforts to strengthen tiger conservation across Tiger Range Countries (TRCs). Recognizing the varying capacities and resource gaps among TRCs, GTF has focused on creating platforms for knowledge exchange, training, and collaborative learning. Through partnerships with national governments, NGOs, academic, and research institutions GTF has conducted specialized training programs for frontline staff, forest managers, biologists, and enforcement personnel. These programs cover a wide array of themes including smart patrolling (like M-STrIPES and SMART), community stewardship and livelihood, human wildlife conflict mitigation, camera trapping, habitat monitoring, conflict mitigation, wildlife crime prevention, and the implementation of Conservation Assured | Tiger Standards (CA|TS).

In view of the above, the Forum has evolved several guidelines, handbooks, and modules for strategizing effective capacity building and training programs across tiger range countries.

In addition to in-country training, GTF has organized regional workshops, exposure visits, and joint exercises among TRCs to foster cross-border cooperation and mutual learning. Notable initiatives include transboundary conservation dialogues, anti-poaching drills, and experience-sharing missions involving countries like Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and Myanmar. These efforts aim not only to harmonize conservation strategies but also to build long-term institutional capacity within national tiger conservation programs. By serving as a knowledge hub and technical facilitator, GTF has significantly contributed to strengthening the collective capacity of tiger range countries to achieve the goals of the Global Tiger Recovery Program and the upcoming Global Tiger Action Plan
