Global Tiger Forum is an international intergovernmental body exclusively set up for the conservation of tigers in the wild in the range countries. Out of the 13 tiger range countries, seven are currently members of GTF: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Myanmar, Nepal and Vietnam besides non-tiger range country U.K. The secretariat is based in New Delhi, India. GTF’s goal is to highlight the rationale for tiger preservation and provide leadership and a common approach throughout the world in order to safeguard the survival of the tiger, its prey, and its habitat. The GTF is to attain the goal through a set of objectives.

65-year-old Gem Tshering from the Dokar_Sharpa constituency in Paro is the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

Before being elected, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bhutan Power Corporation and Pyelbar Lokchey Private Limited.

He has a Master of Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

Dr. Rajesh Gopal has led several initiatives in the field of wild tiger conservation for over 35 years. His leadership at the helm of India’s Tiger agenda led to transformational institutionalization of the wild tiger agenda in India, including formation of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), Country-wide scientific tiger/prey and habitat assessment, legal backing to the core, and buffer agenda in tiger reserves, creation of Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) among several other initiatives. His present stint as the Secretary General of the GTF is focused on promoting inter-country coordination while addressing site-specific needs for wild tiger conservation.
